Kelly and Galo, farmers in El Salvador, strive to provide a better life for their children and for the people that they employ. As small business owners, they help fuel the local economy. In fact, El Salvador’s national economy is dependent on people just like them.
Programs, such as Prosaia, are designed to help people like Kelly and Galo in their efforts to live healthier, more productive, and more independent lives.
The Prosaia Project worked with El Salvador’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to educate Salvadoran entrepreneurs about sanitary and phytosanitary standards in the United States. These efforts helped El Salvador increase competitiveness of its agribusinesses and knowledge of U.S. pesticide regulations and use. The project’s accomplishments include a Spanish-language manual about exporting fruits and vegetables to the United States.
