Arkan West Bank and Gaza Supporting Rule of Law Project
Respect for the rule of law and public confidence in the judiciary’s ability to resolve disputes are essential to the establishment of a democratic Palestinian state. But widespread mistrust and misinformation about the legal and judicial system in the West Bank and Gaza pose barriers to this development.
The Arkan Supporting Rule of Law Reform Project worked with the legal education community and informal judicial sector to help the public better understand and respect the legal reform process in the Palestinian
Territories. One example of the project’s assistance was theater: Arkan contracted the Sanabel Theater Company to develop a participatory theater show targeted at school children from marginalized areas. The play encouraged children to respect and advocate for the rule of law.
